"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana

Assigned Listening

Genre: grunge/alternative

Lyrics: Seem to be talking about a group of people (or an entire generation) who feels like they are owed something (here we are now/entertain us). Parts of the songs lyrics make no sense to me.

Instruments: drums, electric guitar

Form:
0:00-0:32 Instrumental introduction: starts with electric guitar playing melody alone, drums and more guitars join with a faster tempo, then slows down with drums holding a steady beat and electric guitar
0:33-0:53 Verse 1: calm vocals, with drums and electric guitar
0:54-1:05 Bridge: vocals and instruments building in intensity
1:06-1:31 Chorus: more intense, faster tempo
1:32-1:47 Guitar/Drum solo much like introduction, intensity slowly diminished as time passed
1:48-2:04 Verse 2: same as verse 1 but with different lyrics
2:05-2:19 Bridge: same as before
2:20-2:53 Chorus: same as before
2:54-3:33 electric guitar solo: maintains steady tempo but tempo begins to wain towards end
3:34-3:50 Verse 3: same as previous verses but with different lyrics
3:52-4:05 Bridge: Same as before
4:06-end Chorus: ends differently with lead vocals chanting "a denial" over and over again

Other Notes: maintains a steady fast beat throughout
